Not Some ‘Mock’ Test: Baahubali Scripts History at IIM-A
The Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad or IIM-A is the top-notch and well-known places for management students. Each year, some very fortunate and hard-working students gain entry to this reputed institute. Baahubali is a milestone in Indian cinema. This epic blockbuster is a winner of National Award for its VFX, CGI, hindi songs, directional brilliance, etc. That’s right folks, this is not some mock test.
SO HOW ARE THEY RELATED?
- Now for all of you thinking about where this blog is getting to and how is there any connection between a top education institute and a movie, then here comes the revelation.
- Baahubali Scripts History at IIM-A – That’s right. This is not some ‘mock test’ (pun intended).
- The IIM-A is working on a case study on the super hit film Baahubali. This study depicts how art, business and technology come together to deliver a blockbuster franchise.

The case study is a part of an elective course on movie business available to the second year students of the institute’s flagship programme in management.
The programme has been authored by IIMA alumnus and visiting faculty, ‘’Bharathan Kandaswamy’’. He hopes that students will try to decode the ‘’success mantra’’ here.
“Baahubali is a unique Indian movie that combines hindi songs, and other regional songs, art, business, and technology brilliantly. That is the reason why the movie and its sequel have been successful. Often, do not do good business despite being creative,’’ Kandaswamy said.
“At times the story is great but with bad execution. And then, sometimes, we have mediocre stories that get a decent opening due to good marketing, but the movie does not sustain due to the weak story,” he added.
Has Something Like This Happened Before?
- Well, yes. In 2017, a chapter was added on how entities like Amazon, Netflix and Hotstar were causing digital disruption in the film industry.
- The course has given three case studies till now. These are in relation to the film industry. Among these is one on the film, ‘’Roja’’. Another is on the success of Rajnikanth-starrer ‘’Muthu’’ in overseas markets such as Japan.
- There is no mock test available for this course, but one can attempt general knowledge and current affair online mock papers to be aware of the movies.
- According to IIMA, the case study is part of a course whose focus is on Indian film industry’s business. This ranges from script selection to movie releases, hindi songs, other regional songs, etc. It also deals with film financing, fund-raising, marketing, distribution, and promotion of films.
