1 Million Applicants: Stakes Involved in SBI Bank PO Test Online
The season of entrance exams and test online is in full-swing across India. One such exam with crazy competition is SBI Bank PO.
Every year the prestigious, State Bank of India conducts a test online to recruit probationary officers in its various banks or branches in the country.
The salary and allowances are handsome with the initial pay scale ranging from Rs. 23, 700 to Rs. 42, 020. These numbers increase along with career path at the bank.

The State Bank of India Probationary Officer (SBI-PO) or Bank PO exam has received nearly 1 million or 10 lakh applications this year.
That’s not the entire shocker. There are only 2000 positions available. This means approx. 500 applicants per position!!

That’s insane considering the competitive level of this entrance exam. Also, imagine the plight of these candidates who must be studying day and night or practicing mock exam papers or searching for free mock test.
The Reason
There is an interesting reason for such high interest in Bank PO test online or even mock exam papers. The eligibility criteria is set in a manner that facilitates this.
For a probationary officer’s position, the criteria is low (graduation). The candidates however, do have to clear a written exam before an interview and group discussion round.
Another interesting fact is that nearly 70% of clerical level applicants are engineering graduates. Or, post-graduates in business administration.
SBI PO Exam Pattern & Selection Procedure 2018
SBI selection process for the PO 2018 exam consists of these 3 stages:
- Prelims
- Mains Exam (Objective + Descriptive)
- Interview
- There is one-fourth negative marking in both Prelims & Mains for each question wrongly marked!
- Once you clear the first 2 stages of SBI PO Exam, you will have to face an Interview and Group Exercise round.
- Once you clear all these 3 stages, you will be selected as a BankPO.
SBI PO Exam Pattern 2018 – MAINS (Phase II)
There will be 2 parts for SBI PO Mains 2018 – Objective Test (200 marks) and Descriptive Test (50 marks). Both the parts will be test online
