Preparing for SSC Exam 2018? Know these General Awareness Topics Well


Staff Selection Commission of India, SSC CGL 2018 Tier-1 Exam will be held from 25th July to 20th August 2018. Each year SSC conducts Combined Graduate Level exam for recruitment to non-technical Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ non-gazetted posts in different Departments of Indian Government.
Various services come under this particular exam, including:
  • Assistants in Ministries/Departments of Govt. of India
  • Central Excise & Customs Inspectors
  • Income Tax Inspectors
  • Central Bureau of Narcotics & CBI Sub-Inspectors
  • Assistant Enforcement Officer in Directorate of Enforcement, Department of Revenue.
  • Divisional Accountant, Jr. Accountant, Auditor & UDCs in various Govt. offices
  • Auditor Offices under C&AG, CGDA, CGA & others.
  • Compiler in Registrar General of India.

SSC CGL 2018 General Awareness

This is perhaps the most difficult and important section of this exam. Negative marking causes many students to become nervous of this section. Students need to prepare topics based on standard X, through their books and SSC mock papers online.

Here are brief highlights of the vital topics that students should prepare well for this part:

  1. General Science

It comprises of 10-15 questions based on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Study.

Most important topics:


  • Units of measurement, Motion, Sound, Heat, Electronics, Gravity, Work, Pressure

  • Alloys, common names and composition of various chemicals

  • Definitions of oxidation, reduction etc.

  • Parts of plant and their functions, Parts of the body and their functions, Basics of the animal kingdom, Disease etc.


  1. History

You only need to focus on Indian History here. Apart from it, questions about various cultures of India might be asked. Online mock tests are particularly useful here.

Ancient India: Vedic Age, Maurya, Harappa, etc.

Medieval India: Delhi Sultanate, Mughals etc.

Modern India: From 1857 sepoy mutiny to Indian independence


  1. Constitution  

Read Indian constitution and polity to prepare for these questions. Also practice questions on static general knowledge testand current affairs.

  • Bills and Laws

  • Election, Representation of People’s Act

  • Judiciary

  • Police reforms

  • Human Rights

  1. Geography

Practice Physical Geography and Indian Geography. World geography is not asked in SSC Exams.

Most important topics:

Types of Soils

 Rivers, Lakes & Waterfalls

 CENSUS-2011

 Major Highways & Railways

Layers of atmosphere, SIAL, SIMA, discontinuity etc.
