Indian Classical Music Fever to Grip Kolkata in this Winter

Music maestros like Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar are to perform at Swara Samrat Festival in Kolkata.

The City of Joy is soon going to be filled with joy as the annual event of classical music celebration returns to Kolkata. The city which witnesses a number of fests, by corporates or government in the winter season, will have a special event for Indian classical music buffs.

Swara Samrat Festival –

  • This is organized by Shree Ranjani Foundation Trust under the stewardship of Sarod maestro Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, his vocalist wife Manasi Majumdar and their enterprising son Indrayudh.

  • It is Indraydh’s planning and efforts that has punched a lot of glamour quotient in this eagerly awaited event. They are inspiring the fans who listen mp3 online or have a hobby to hear classical mp3 songs, to buy tickets as a token of respect to their musical icons.

  • The two-day Festival is dedicated to Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. It also features renowned sarod exponent Ken Zuckerman, a senior disciple of the legendary Ustad.

The Jugalbandi

The Festival will showcase the best of Indian Classical Music and has some really big names lined up for the discerning Kolkata audience who love their music online and offline.

Ustad Zakir Hussain, the world renowned tabla maestro, has given his blessings to the organisation’s aims and objectives with his active participation every year. Last year his Jugalbandi with Santoor King, Shib Kumar amazed the audience.

Season 6, this year, will witness the Ustad opposite to the well known flautist Rakesh Chaurasia (nephew-disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia belonging to Maihar clan).

Other Attractions –

The main attractions would be Tansen Awardee, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar and Kaushiki Chakraborty, the iconic star-vocalist of her generation.
Sitar-wizard Purbayan Chatterjee and mandolin duo U Rajesh (Carnatic) and Snehasish Mozumder (Hindustani) also plan to churn up both the streams to create a well-blended Indian music.

People can catch the final segment of this season at Nazrul Manch on December 16-17. The highlights of the event may also be viewed on music online portals like YouTube
