How National Law Day Can Inspire Your Law Career

On November 26, sixty-eight years ago, the Constitution of India came to existence. It was on this date, that it was adopted by the Constituent Assembly. And since then, this historic occasion has come to be known as ‘National Law Day

For those pursuing a law career and the vast community of lawyers present across social networking websites, this is a very special day. The country has grown leaps and bounds in all fields including that of law.

The lawyers too have been a part of the digital revolution. They are now adapting to the change and applying new technologies such as digital Law Diary or IT firewalls, to their services. However, to remind us of our journey in this law career, a look back at the past becomes important.

Here are five ways in which National Law Day has grown prominence over the years and among those who cherish and pursue the law career:

  1. In 1979, noted jurist and former parliamentarian, LM Singhvi made a proposal to the Supreme Court Bar Association. It was to mark the adoption of Constitution on November 26. And, to celebrate this date as National Law Day.

  1. Secondly, in order to assess the state of law in India as per the framers of Constitution, a resolution was passed in 1979. And, the Supreme Court Bar Association’s agreement had this remarkable day, up until the year 2015.

  1. It took more than 2 years, 11 months and 17 days to prepare the Constitution. 11 sessions including drafting committee sessions of the Constituent Assembly were held under the chairmanship of Dr. BR Ambedkar. These committees held meetings on a total of 165 days.

4.  In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a tweak to November 26, by giving this day a new name – the Constitution Day. This was done in memory of Dr. Ambedkar. This also happens to be the occasion of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary.


5. All of the best social networking website in India were abuzz this year for the event at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. PM Modi made a significant remark at this event.
